How Can You Benefit From CranioSacral Therapy?

What is CranioSacral Therapy Useful For Treating?

Photo by Dennis ErnstCranioSacral Therapy is a scientifically based system of bodywork pioneered and developed by osteopath Dr. John Upledger, which utilizes very light touch for both assessment and treatment. While CranioSacral Therapy can be used to treat a variety of problems, it is most well known for its effectiveness in identifying and treating problems involving the muscles and spine, structural alignment, and for healing from emotional trauma. If you suffer from back, neck, or shoulder pain, headaches, TMJ, fibromyalgia, arthritis, or anxiety, CranioSacral Therapy might be for you.

What is a CranioSacral Session Like?

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on therapy that works to release restrictions around the brain and spinal cord in order to allow the body to bring itself back in to a place of homeostasis, or balance. A CranioSacral therapist works not so much by 'doing' something to the body as by stimulating the body's self-corrective mechanisms. Clients are often surprised that even though a therapist may be touching them very lightly, they feel the impact throughout their entire body. At times clients may also experience an emotional release.

CranioSacral Therapy sessions last about an hour, and can be extremely relaxing. Patients also sometimes experience memory flashes that are related to the healing process, as they relive and release memories stored in the cells of the body. This results in a reduction of symptoms, and in increased feelings of well-being.
